Library Rules

The Revenue Society Library comprises books and magazines submitted for review in The Revenue Journal augmented by gifts from Members or authors and supplemented by relevant material from the personal library of the Hon. Librarian. We regret that until further notice postal access to the Library, except under Rule 10, is restricted to European countries only.

  1. Members may access materials from the Library by personal visit or by written request for loan by post.

  2. Personal visits must be arranged at least one calendar week beforehand and any changes in timing advised at the earliest possible moment; there are no specific library hours, though Sunday visits are 'discouraged'. Meals and nearby overnight accommodation may be arranged.

  3. Loans by post must be requested in writing; the request must be on a signed Society order form or must include the phrase "I agree to abide by the Library Rules" in a signed letter.

  4. Whenever possible requested materials will be dispatched in suitable packaging by Recorded Mail within three days of receipt of the request.

  5. Any packets found damaged on arrival should be reported by return, with photocopies demonstrating evidence of damage to packaging or contents.

  6. Materials may be retained by Members for not more than two weeks, and should be returned in the same or similar packaging also by Recorded Mail.

  7. Postal loans are charged at the rate of £1 plus the cost of out-going mail. Your remittance in sterling (cheque, Euro-cheque, cash or British postage stamps) must accompany the returned materials.

  8. Each postal loan may comprise one book or up to three magazines or other items; there is no limit to the number of loans to any Member, though only one request from any individual may be outstanding at one time.

  9. Damaged or non-retuned books will be charged at the rate of £200 each; magazines, auction catalogues or loose articles at the rate of £50 each.

  10. Non-returnable photocopies may be provided of pre-1940 books and of individual magazine articles or pages of auction catalogues at the discretion of the Librarian; photocopies will be charged at the rate of £1 plus postage plus 15p per page, payable in sterling as at (7.) above.

  11. The Librarian will report relevant statistics and financial information each year to the Annual General Meeting of the Society.

  12. Disputes will be considered and resolved by the Officers of the Society, whose decision will be binding on all parties concerned.
